Mom of San Diego mosque suspect called 911 to report missing guns hours before shooting

  • A shooting at an Islamic center in San Diego, California, resulted in the deaths of three adults, including a security guard, and two teenage suspects aged 17 and 18.
  • The two suspects were found dead from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds a few blocks from the center, with a weapon bearing "hate speech" and a gas canister with a Nazi symbol found nearby.
  • The mother of one of the suspects had warned police Monday morning in a call around 9:42 a.m. that her son had run away, might be suicidal and had taken her vehicle and several of her weapons, including a 9mm handgun, a shotgun and a Mini-14, according to officials.
  • Authorities are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime, citing evidence of "generalized hate rhetoric" and anti-Islamic writing found in the suspects' vehicle.
  • The San Diego Police Department, FBI, and ATF are conducting a multi-agency investigation across several crime scenes, with officials crediting the deceased security guard for heroically preventing further casualties.
