Monday's With Job #13

This is the 13th week of Monday’s With Job series, a simple idea I started to share every Monday. One practical productivity insight to help you work better, stay focused, and finish stronger.

I was thinking about this topic this week. We often evaluate ourselves based on our performance, especially in the working place.

Did I do enough this week?

Did I hit my targets?

Did I finish what I had planned?

Was I able to deliver the results?

We have to always remember that performance is linked to priorities. Why I say that? Well, when we focus on the right things then you spend time on what matters most. You also protect your energy for the things that really push you forward.

  • A sales executive who prioritizes meeting clients and building relationships will likely achieve better sales results than someone who spends most of the day replying to emails.
  • A business owner who prioritizes serving customers and growing the business instead of getting caught up in minor administrative work is more likely to see long-term growth.

When this is consistently done this contributes to better performance because our efforts are directed towards meaningful outcomes. In other words, your time, energy and effort is directed towards the activities that produce the greatest results.

As we prioritize the right things, we become more effective, more reliable, and better prepared for greater responsibilities. The habits we build today often open the doors to the opportunities we are expecting for tomorrow.

Let me give you a few examples to drive this point further.

  • If developing your leadership is your priority, you will intentionally invest time in learning and growing.
  • If strengthening relationships is your priority, you will make time for meaningful conversations instead of only talking about work.
  • If your health is your priority, you will schedule time to exercise instead of hoping you will somehow find time
  • If improving your skills is your priority, you will consistently invest in your personal development.

Notice that in every example, priorities determine where we invest our time and effort. Where we invest our time and effort ultimately impacts our performance.

So setting the right priorities, helps you make better decisions and betters decisions shapes your actions and your actions determine how your performance will be.

As you begin this week, ask "am I prioritizing the things that will produce the best results?"

Because when your priorities are right, your performance will naturally follow.

Have a productive week ahead!
