A video from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district — capturing an unusual moment between a monkey and a stray puppy — has recently gone viral.
The incident reportedly occurred in the Rewalsar area, where a monkey was seen picking up a puppy from the roadside and carrying it nearly 20 feet up a tree. As soon as the sight drew attention of the locals, they immediately gathered below fearing the puppy could be dropped.
However, instead of harming the animal, the monkey appeared to hold the puppy protectively, much like a mother would care for her young. Witnesses said the monkey remained in the tree for around 10 to 15 minutes. Fortunately, the monkey climbed down and gently left the puppy on the ground unharmed.
Some locals speculated that the monkey may have been female and that maternal instincts could have influenced its behaviour toward the puppy.
