Kota Kinabalu: A breast cancer awareness programme emphasising on the early detection of breast lumps has been launched by the Kinabalu Pink Ribbon (KPR).

The programme throughout the month of November, in collaboration with the Association of Private Practitioners Sabah (APPS) and Permai Polyclinics Group (PPG), seeks to extend its impact by providing breast screening to a broader demographic of women.

A nominal fee of RM30 per patient will be collected, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting KPR’s charitable mission for the local population, said APPS Founder Datuk Dr James Jeremiah.

He said the programme goes above and beyond by providing essential logistical support for the crucial fundraising project.

“PPG’s commitment underscores the dedication of its members to the cause of breast cancer awareness, emphasising on their belief in the positive impact this initiative can have on the community,” he said.

At Permai Polyclinic, Dr Dayang Corieza Febriany, the attending radiologist, ensures the reliability and effectiveness of the programme, reflecting her commitment to advancing healthcare and making a real impact on those affected by breast cancer, he said.

Dr Mohamed Arif Hameed Sultan, an experienced general surgeon, guides the initiative as an advisor.

His expertise enhances the strategic planning of the programme, ensuring it reaches and positively impacts as many individuals as possible, he said.

“PPG and APPS align with the mission of KPR. It is of utmost importance that the public take the opportunity provided by this screening programme, understanding the pivotal role that early detection plays in the protection of lives.

“By participating, individuals not only contribute to KPR’s cause but also proactively safeguard their own wellbeing,” said Dr James.

“We believe that the act of participation goes beyond a mere contribution.

“It becomes a personal commitment to fostering a culture of health and wellbeing within the community and ultimately leading to a collective effort in the fight against breast cancer,” he added.
