Young dancers go viral in Malaysia for Michael Jackson flash mob in Baju Melayu and Kebaya promoting the film Michael

A flash mob performance in the city centre has gone viral following the release of the Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, in Malaysia earlier this week.

Just two days ago, the dance group Zeppe Youngsterz wowed onlookers by recreating the King of Pop’s signature moves, including the iconic moonwalk.

What made the performance especially fascinating was not just their impressive choreography, which mirrored the King of Pop’s moves step by step, but their choice of attire.

The dancers were dressed in Baju Melayu and Kebaya tops paired with trousers, beautifully showcasing traditional Malaysian attire.

A man who posted photos and videos on Threads wrote that Zeppe Youngsterz showcased iconic dance moves inspired by Michael Jackson.

The initiative by United International Pictures Malaysia was not only a promotional effort but also a way to highlight the talent of young, local dancers.

Videos of the performance quickly gained traction online, drawing over 5,600 likes and a wave of positive reactions.

Many praised the dancers’ creativity and skill, noting the unique blend of global pop culture and local tradition.

“Never would I imagine someone could look so good dancing to Michael’s songs in Baju Melayu,” said one netizen in the comments section.

“It’s not easy to dance and moonwalk in Baju Melayu and Kebaya. Way to go, guys,” praised another.

“This is awesome and looks fun! You don’t see many flash mobs nowadays. Great promotion! It’s not easy to organise something like that in such a busy area,” commented another user.

Another wrote: “When pop culture meets local culture. I’m so glad to see a new generation of MJ fans.”

Michael Jackson began his career with the Jackson 5, a boy band formed with his brothers in the late 1960s.

He went on to become one of the best-selling artists of all time, with chart-topping albums such as Thriller and Bad, earning numerous awards throughout his career.

Michael passed away on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50, but he remains an iconic figure in the music world.

The new film stars Jaafar Jackson in the lead role. Jaafar, the son of Jermaine Jackson, is Michael’s nephew.

The movie is currently still showing in cinemas.
