More barangay broadband centers to be opened – Globe

GLOBE Telecom Inc. said Sunday that it was expanding its broadband-based barangay centers across the Visayas to support customers in remote and underserved areas.

The telco said it would be setting up barangay broadband centers this month in the provinces of Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Samar, Leyte, Bohol and Cebu.

This follows the establishment of centers in Negros Occidental and Oriental, Iloilo, Guimaras, Samar, Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Aklan, Capiz and Antique.

Globe said the new broadband centers would serve as access points where potential customers can inquire about their fiber offerings, check service availability, receive application assistance and get subscription guidance.

The initiative also seeks to help address the challenge households face with regard to navigating and familiarizing themselves with available broadband and related services.

"Reliable connectivity has become essential for education, work, business, and everyday life," said Jimbo Cordero, Globe general manager for the Visayas.

"By bringing broadband services closer to communities, we are making it easier for more families to access the opportunities that come with a strong internet connection,” he added.

The telco's shares on Friday dropped P20, or 1.18 percent, to close at P1,680 each. ED PAOLO SALTING
