Kota Kinabalu: More women will get the chance to hold high-ranking positions in City Hall, assured Mayor Datuk Sabin Samitah.
Speaking in conjunction with the International Women’s Day celebration, he said City Hall is providing opportunities as demonstrated by the previous appointment of a female mayor.
“As well as positions such as Director-General, Deputy Director-General and various director roles in some departments,” he said, Friday.
Sabin said among the 31 top management group staff and heads of departments/divisions, 42pc (or 13) are female staff members.

Read more He said City Hall strongly emphasises equality in the leadership orientation of organisation, especially in planning, implementing, and moving the focus of the city’s development direction.
The value of respecting women and helping each other must be prioritised at City Hall without any stigma or stereotypes that limit the involvement of female staff in decision-making groups, Sabin said.
“I firmly believe that City Hall’s brilliance and success over the years stem from the energy and dynamic ideas contributed by DBKK’s highly capable female employees.
“Their fearless approach to overcoming obstacles has served as a catalyst for the city’s excellence, despite any fatigue or weariness.
Sabin said City Hall would always ensure the rights and welfare of female employees are protected and ensure a comfortable, safe, and prosperous workplace environment.
He called on all department heads to explore new initiatives to protect the welfare of female staff, create facilities that protect their safety, and identify incentives for the development of female staff.
