PETALING JAYA: Bersatu can expect to see more new faces in its top leadership after the upcoming party election later this year, according to one of its Supreme Council members.
Hulu Terengganu MP Rosol Wahid said the party has more MPs and assemblymen now than it did when it held its party polls in 2020.
He said the increase in the number of elected representatives provides delegates with more potential candidates to take up party leadership positions for the next three years.
“In (this election) there will be more options for party members,” the Terengganu Bersatu deputy chief told FMT.

Bersatu has a total of 31 MPs and 60 assemblymen.
Party polls are expected to proceed this year after a delay of 18 months.
However, Rosol does not expect the election to be intense since incumbent president Muhyiddin Yassin is unlikely to be challenged.
At its annual general assembly in November, Muhyiddin announced that he would not defend his position, leading to speculation that party secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin would succeed him.
Hamzah is now the opposition leader in the Dewan Rakyat.
However, Muhyiddin, a former prime minister, later backtracked on his decision.
Last week, deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu ruled out the possibility of standing against Muhyiddin.
Meanwhile, Supreme Council member Redzuan Yusof said he will only take part in the polls if he is still needed.
Deputy chief of the women’s wing Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the majority of party leaders still believe that Muhyiddin should remain in the top post.
She said Muhyiddin’s leadership and experience are needed to strengthen Bersatu, which she said is still a “young” party.
The Masjid Tanah MP noted that no one has shown any interest in challenging Muhyiddin.
“For the president’s post, we (still) need Muhyiddin, but the other posts are up for grabs for anyone who feels he is qualified to help the Bersatu leadership and further strengthen the party,” she added
