A total of 129,102 women who work in the gig economy were registered under Perkeso’s Self-Employed Social Security Scheme (SKSPS) as of 30 June 2026, Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan told the Senate this week. They form part of 1,113,017 gig workers nationwide who are covered under the same scheme.

The scheme pays out when an accident at work, or an illness caused by your work, stops you from earning. Riders and drivers who are not registered get nothing from Perkeso if that happens.

What Lindung Kendiri Pays For If You Work For Yourself

SKSPS, which Perkeso now brands as Lindung Kendiri, covers accidents that happen while you are working and diseases you get because of your work. It is built for people who have no employer making Perkeso contributions on their behalf, which is the situation almost every rider, driver, and freelancer is in.

Between 1 January and 30 June 2026, a total of 4,507 self-employed people, including gig workers, claimed benefits worth RM15.19 million.

Lindung Kasih Covers You At Home For RM120 A Year

Perkeso runs a second scheme for women called Lindung Kasih, which costs RM120 a year, or RM10 a month, paid in advance for 12 months of cover. It comes under the Housewives’ Social Security Act 2022 and covers any Malaysian woman under 55 who runs a household, whether she is married or not and whether she does it full-time or alongside a job. A woman who rides for a delivery app in the day and runs her home the rest of the time can be covered by both schemes at once.

Lindung Kasih pays out if you are hurt at home while doing household work. You register through the Suri portal or at any Perkeso office, and the RM120 can be paid by your husband, your family, or anyone else on your behalf.

From 1 January to 30 June 2026, some 48,180 women contributed to Lindung Kasih. Over the same six months, 3,358 women received RM2.55 million in benefits. The benefits include permanent disability payments, funeral benefits, a constant attendance allowance, an invalidity allowance, a survivors’ pension, physical rehabilitation, and dialysis treatment.

Lindung 24 Jam Is Only For Salaried Employees

A third scheme, Lindung 24 Jam, covers accidents outside working hours. It started on 1 June 2026 for employees whose bosses deduct Perkeso from their wages. Gig workers and the self-employed are not eligible for it, and Perkeso points them to Lindung Kendiri instead.

If you hold a salaried job, that deduction became voluntary on 8 July 2026. You have until 31 August 2026 to opt out if you do not want it. You submit the declaration yourself through the Lindung Faedah portal or at a Perkeso counter, then pass a copy to your employer so the deduction stops.

How To Register If You Are Not Covered Yet

If you ride or drive and you have not signed up yet, you register and pay through the Prihatin app or the Prihatin web portal, and you can also go through an appointed Perkeso agent. Have your identity card ready, along with your driving licence, e-hailing profile, or permit, then pick the contribution plan you want.

The plans start at RM13.10 a month, which works out to RM157.20 for the year, and go up to RM49.40 a month for the highest cover. Under the Gig Workers Act 2025, platform companies also have to deduct Perkeso contributions from what they pay you, and the government is covering 70% of the contribution for first-time registrants in their first year and 50% in the second year.
