SHAH ALAM, June 11 - The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has recorded 153 cases of misuse and smuggling of local subsidised petrol under Op Tiris 4.0, with authorities seizing 68,692 litres of fuel nationwide.
The New Straits Times reported that its enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam said the cases were recorded between March 16 and June 3 in several states, particularly in border areas.
Approximately 59,965 inspections were conducted during this period.
“The ministry is committed to combating subsidy leakages and the smuggling of controlled goods, including petrol, across the border.
“We want to ensure subsidised supplies reach the intended recipients,” he said.
Azman added that enforcement efforts included inspections at petrol stations and business premises to identify illegal purchases, storage, and misuse of subsidised fuel.
“The ministry has also strengthened intelligence-gathering efforts to detect and curb the activities of fuel smuggling syndicates.
“Through this cooperation, stern action will be taken against those involved in misappropriating and smuggling subsidised fuel to curb leakages and protect national interests,” he said.
