MORE than 20 teachers at SJKC Mun Choong and their families were among the victims of a pre-dawn landslide in Batang Kali, Selangor, that occurred at a campsite near an organic farm.
Its Parent-Teacher Association President U Chin Ong told Malay daily Berita Harian that he had received information that some of the affected teachers have been rescued and sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) for treatment.
“In addition to HKL, some teachers were transferred to the Hulu Yam Baru Police Station to receive treatment from HKL officers.
“I rushed from Selayang to this station to get the latest information. There was a female teacher with her baby, both crying while being treated. Luckily they were only slightly injured. I also brought milk for the baby,” he was quoted saying.
He said the teachers and their family had decided to spend part of the year-end school holidays together and had been camped near the farm since Wednesday.
“They should have returned to their homes this morning. The teachers involved are on vacation at the farm because they felt the area is safe and flat. There are two camps in the area. A landslide occurred in camp one.”
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim Friday urged Malaysians to pray for the success of the search and rescue mission for the still missing victims of the landslide.

Gohtong Jaya.
More than 21 people have been confirmed dead, though the actual numbers are still unknown as a search and rescue operation is ongoing.
