
The mortal remains of six residents of Rajouri and Poonch districts, who were killed in a road accident in Kuwait last month, reached back home on Wednesday.
The bodies arrived from New Delhi in two ambulances and were later handed over to the bereaved families. Of the six deceased, five belonged to Poonch district while one was from Rajouri.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed gratitude to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar for facilitating the repatriation process.
In a statement, a spokesperson said the Chief Minister also appreciated the efforts of the Indian Embassy in Kuwait for extending timely assistance and support to the affected families during the difficult period.
“Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed gratitude to External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar for facilitating the repatriation of the mortal remains of six residents of Jammu and Kashmir who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Kuwait,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said the CM acknowledged the role of the Indian Embassy in coordinating with local authorities and assisting the families. All six victims had reportedly been working in Kuwait for the past one to three years before the accident occurred last month.
