Most MAF retirees prefer to start own businesses: Adly

KUALA LUMPUR – The Armed Forces Ex-Servicesmen Affairs Corporation (Perhebat) found that the majority of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans are inclined to run their own businesses or be self-employed upon completion of their service.

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said that based on a study conducted by Perhebat in April, 83% of veterans intend to run a business, while 17% of them want to secure a second career after retirement.

He said the results of the study enable Perhebat and the Defence Ministry to help veterans by acting as facilitators to match veterans with employers and entrepreneurship supervisory agencies.

“Among the initiatives implemented are job placements and entrepreneurship programmes. Perhebat also provides guidance and monitors the MAF veterans’ second career up to a period of five years after they complete their service,” he said during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said this in his reply to a question raised by Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor (Ketereh-PN) on the Defence Ministry’s plans to ensure MAF veterans secure a second career. – Bernama, June 14, 2023
