THE Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has confirmed receiving preliminary information regarding a suspected space debris sighting in the airspace over Sarawak on April 7.

The ministry said no official reports have so far been lodged regarding the discovery of any debris, whether on land or at sea.

Based on an initial review of a widely circulated video, the object is believed to be potentially part of space debris, although further verification remains ongoing.

“Monitoring is being actively carried out by the Space Authority Division (BPAngkasa) in collaboration with the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA),” the ministry said in a statement today.

The public has been advised not to touch any suspicious objects and to report such findings immediately to the authorities.

Any information can be channelled via the emergency hotline 999 or by contacting the Space Authority Division directly. - April 9, 2026
