- The DVSA has introduced a new MOT rule allowing ECE-approved LED replacement bulbs in halogen headlamps for class 3, 4, 5, and 7 vehicles from 14 October.
- The update applies to tricycles, cars, larger passenger vehicles and goods vehicles, but excludes motorcycles, HID conversions, and full LED unit replacements.
- Vehicles fitted with these replacement bulbs must permanently display a secure approval sticker in an easily visible location for MOT testers.
- Garages will issue an MOT failure if the approval sticker is missing, unreadable, tampered with, or does not match the bulb fitted.
- Drivers risk a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points if they drive a vehicle that has failed its MOT for a dangerous fault.
