The Ministry of Transport will coordinate the RM1,000 special financial aid distribution for taxi, rental car, and school bus drivers ahead of Deepavali.
MELAKA: The Ministry of Transport (MOT) will continue to coordinate the distribution of special financial aid amounting to RM1,000 to taxi, rental car, and school bus drivers in collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure the distribution of contributions runs smoothly and benefits the recipients.
MOT said that the one-off contribution reflects the MADANI Government’s concern for the welfare of drivers as well as appreciation for their role in meeting the public’s transportation needs.
“MOT understands that drivers need to balance the costs of vehicle operation and maintenance with daily expenses and family commitments. This early implementation also takes into account the government’s desire for Hindu drivers to receive the assistance before the Deepavali celebration, thereby helping to ease expenses and festive preparations with their families,” MOT said.
Therefore, MOT hopes that this contribution will provide financial relief and help them meet those needs.
Meanwhile, MOT stated that the RM1,000 Contribution Programme for Taxi, Rental Car, and School Bus Drivers held in Melaka today involved 283 recipients, with the contributions presented by Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
The programme is a continuation of the launch series officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya on October 14.
MOT added that drivers who were not involved in today’s programme remain eligible to receive the special financial aid, provided they possess a valid driver’s card and Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence.
“If the relevant documents have expired, they must renew their driver’s card online via the Commercial Vehicle Licensing System (iSPKP) by yesterday at the latest.
“MOT will continue to pay attention to the needs of drivers and the challenges faced by the industry, in order to support safe, quality, and reliable transportation services,” the ministry said.
According to the statement, the funding for this special financial aid was announced through the 2027 Budget, utilising RM91.2 million generated from the sales of the special ‘H’ series vehicle registration numbers.
The channeling of these proceeds to drivers demonstrates the government’s effort to ensure that generated revenue is translated into direct benefits for the people.
This approach aligns with the values of well-being and compassion within the Malaysia MADANI framework, by paying attention to the welfare of those who provide transportation services to the community.
