Mother and daughter who died in ‘tragic incident’ at Essex beach identified

• Mother Shally Rahman, 42, and her 15-year-old daughter Samiha Rahman have been named as the two individuals who died after getting into difficulty in the water off the Essex coast.
• A seven-year-old boy, also part of the family, remains in a serious condition in hospital following the “tragic incident”.
• Emergency services were called to West Mersea beach near Colchester at 5:35pm on Wednesday evening.
• Witnesses reported seeing a group of people on a seabank calling for help as the tide came in.
• Police are appealing for witnesses to assist their ongoing investigation, saying that those involved in the incident are believed to have known each other.
