KOTA KINABALU: A mother and son were rescued unharmed after their car plunged into a sewage pond along Jalan Loji Taman Kingfisher in Kota Kinabalu on Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 8.28am when their Perodua Viva skidded off the road and crashed into the pond, trapping both occupants inside.

Passers-by, including an off-duty firefighter from the Lintas Fire Station, used wooden sticks found nearby to help the 79-year-old woman and her 49-year-old son out of the vehicle.

The Fire and Rescue Department confirmed the victims were safe and declared the operation concluded at 8.54am after ensuring no further hazards at the scene.
