Mother, baby die in car-tanker lorry collision in Kota Tinggi

KOTA TINGGI: A mother and her three-month-old baby girl in a car were killed after it was involved in a collision with a tanker lorry at Jalan Tanjung Balau-Bandar Penawar near Taman Sri Penawar here yesterday.

Bandar Penawar Fire and Rescue Station spokesman said Najwa Nurshahira Kamaruzaman, 28, and Felkah Nurnadeera Muhammad Fahmy, who were the front-seat passengers, were killed on the spot.

“The mother and baby were found pinned to the seat,“ he said in a statement today.

He said the 30-year-old driver of the Perodua Myvi car, who is the woman’s husband, and their two other children, aged eight and five, sustained minor injuries, while the 34-year-old lorry driver escaped unhurt.

Eight fire-fighters rushed to the scene upon receiving a call at 1.38 pm, he added.
