Kota Kinabalu: The mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir told the Coroner’s Court on Friday that she disagreed with the police classifying her daughter's death as a sudden death report (SDR), which prompted her to take the matter to court.
Testifying before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan during cross-examination by counsel Datuk Ram Singh, Noraidah Lamat (pic) stated she remained convinced her daughter would not have committed such an act and maintained her hope that justice would be served.
When questioned on why Zara would have decided to jump from the third floor, Noraidah said she did not know as the deceased had never shown any such signs or spoken to her about such matters previously.
She further told the court she could not confirm whether anyone had pushed Zara to the ground floor because she had not received clear information regarding the incident from either the school or investigating officers.
Noraidah also rejected the suggestion that Zara would have chosen to jump, describing her as a cheerful and resilient child who would not easily give up despite facing teasing, bullying, and name-calling at the hostel, while clarifying that information regarding the lack of eyewitnesses had originated from an Ustaz Azhari.
