NORAIDAH Lamat told the Coroner’s Court on Thursday that she desperately hoped her daughter, Zara Qairina Mahathir, would regain consciousness and tell her what had happened to her.
Noraidah said she spent the night alone with Zara in hospital, overwhelmed by questions after seeing her daughter with blood on her head and legs.
“It was not about spending the night with Zara. My feelings were more about seeing Zara’s condition. What actually happened? Why was Zara’s head bleeding? Why were Zara’s legs bleeding? Who did this to her?” she said.
“I really hoped Zara would regain consciousness, open her eyes and tell me what actually happened to her,” she said while testifying before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan.
Noraidah, the 82nd witness to testify, said she stayed with Zara overnight after her daughter was admitted to the neuro ward.
The following morning, at about 7am, a group of about three doctors conducted their rounds, accompanied by other medical officers.
She said the group included a Chinese doctor and an Indian doctor, and one of the doctors gave her words of encouragement that she found particularly meaningful.
“He said, ‘Madam, later you make a police report about what happened to your daughter.’“I asked again, ‘I need to make a police report, doctor?’“He said, ‘Make a police report for a case like this. Sooner or later, we just wait for the outcome. It will take time,’” she said.
Noraidah said the doctor’s advice strengthened her resolve to remain strong and continue seeking answers.
“That was what really stimulated my mind to be strong and continue fighting,” she said.
When asked whether the doctor was male or female, Noraidah described him as a relatively young man who appeared to be Chinese based on his features.
