KOTA MARUDU: A 34-year-old woman died after the motorcycle she was riding with her seven-year-old son collided with a Toyota Hilux at the Kampung Marak Parak junction here on Friday morning while she was taking him to school.
Kota Marudu police chief Supt Simiun Lomudin said Liza Jius suffered fatal head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant at 6.39am, while her son, a pupil of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Marak Parak, sustained minor injuries to his head and hands.
He said preliminary investigations found that the Hilux, driven by a 40-year-old man travelling from Kudat town towards Beluran, was overtaking another motorcycle when Liza, who was travelling from Kampung Laguhang towards the school, turned right into the school junction, resulting in a collision.
The Hilux driver was uninjured, while the woman’s body was taken to the Kota Marudu Hospital forensic unit for a post-mortem scheduled for Saturday and her son was taken to the same hospital for treatment.
Simiun said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
