Mother of five fined RM4,000 for insulting King

A MOTHER of five was fined RM4,000 in default of six months jail by the Johor Bahru sessions court today for publishing a Facebook post deemed seditious and insulting to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Norli Mohamed Yusof, 53, a tailor's assistant, pleaded guilty after the charge was read before Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail.

She was charged with publishing the post on her Facebook account, Norli Nor, at 2 pm on Dec 11 last year in Bandar Seri Alam here.

Norli was charged under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948, which carries a maximum fine of RM5,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutors Abdul Ghafar Ab Latif and Lydia Salleh prosecuted, while Norli was represented by lawyers K. Bharathi and P. Rajagunaseelan. – February 4, 2025
