A WOMAN has been fined RM1,500 by the Magistrates’ Court in Seremban after pleading guilty to allowing a teenager to drive her car without a valid licence, leading to a crash in Senawang that killed three people last year.
The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah against Nur Farahidayah A Rahman, 41, following her guilty plea to an amended charge.
Under the charge, Nur Farahidayah, as the registered owner of a Honda Jazz, was accused of permitting a teenager to drive the vehicle despite not holding a valid driving licence.
The offence was said to have taken place at about 8.30pm on 6 March 2025 at the traffic lights along Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1, Taman Matahari Heights.
The prosecution was brought under Section 39(5) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a fine of up to RM2,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both upon conviction.
Defence counsel Johan Radzi appealed for the minimum fine, telling the court that his client is a single mother with six children, four of whom are still studying.
He said the accused is the main provider for her family through work in the food and beverage sector and also cares for her elderly parents.
"The accused’s guilty plea has saved the court’s time and this is her first offence. She also apologises to the court for the mistake committed," he said.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Khairunnisa Zainuddin urged the court to impose the maximum penalty, citing the seriousness of the case which resulted in three deaths.
She added that the court must also consider the broader public interest over personal circumstances.
"As a mother, the accused should have ensured that her child did not drive the vehicle," she said.
The court also ordered a three-month prison sentence should the woman fail to pay the fine.
Today marks the first anniversary of the crash, which occurred when a teenage driver failed to stop at a red traffic light and collided with two motorcycles approaching from the left.
Two victims — Muhammad Aidil Ramdan Abdullah, 15, and Muhammad Aswari Lotpi, 16 — were pronounced dead at the scene. A third victim, Aisar Azim Abdullah, 17, died while receiving treatment at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital on 10 March last year. - March 6, 2026
