- Courtney Gartshore, 28, has been sentenced to six years in prison for killing her three-month-old daughter, Dahlia-Rose, by exposing her to heat from a hairdryer.
- The incident occurred on 30 September 2023 in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, whilst Gartshore was drunk and in sole charge of the baby.
- The hairdryer was directed at Dahlia-Rose for up to an hour, causing burns to 18 per cent of her body before she died at the scene from heat stroke and hypothermia.
- Judge Simon Collins KC described the case as “uniquely disturbing” and called Gartshore's actions a gross breach of the most basic duty as a parent.
- Gartshore received her sentence at the High Court in Edinburgh on Friday after being convicted of culpable homicide at a trial in Aberdeen in July.
