Kota Kinabalu: A woman and her son have lodged separate police reports after receiving calls from individuals posing as CelcomDigi representatives and demanding payment for telecommunications packages they did not authorise.
The 57-year-old housewife from here said she had already paid RM580 before realising she had been scammed. She said the callers are still demanding an outstanding balance of RM2,891.65.
“I believe this is a scam targeting customers,” she said.
She lodged a police report at the Tanjong Aru police station on Monday and hopes action will be taken by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
Her 21-year-old son, a student, said he received a call from someone claiming to be a CelcomDigi representative offering two months of free service under a Family Plan in appreciation of his four years of loyalty.
The caller then requested his online banking one-time password (OTP), prompting him to immediately end the call.
The family later visited a CelcomDigi outlet to terminate the contract, where staff discovered that the account had incurred RM3,400 in unauthorised charges.
Following advice from CelcomDigi, he lodged a police report at the Cyberjaya police station on May 24.
