A MOTHER has told the Shah Alam High Court that she and her family have been relentlessly haunted by the image of her nine-month-old son, who died after being sexually assaulted by the husband of his caregiver four years ago.
Robiatul ‘Adawiah Aziz described how her life and that of her family was utterly transformed by the tragic incident, leaving emotional scars that she says are indescribable.
“I, as a mother, feel I have failed to protect my own flesh and blood, whereas our home, once filled with laughter, now holds only painful memories.
“His cries and smiles were taken away in the most painful way. Losing a child is not merely a feeling, but a wound that will never heal,” she said, referring to a victim impact statement submitted to the court.
The former religious school teacher said guilt and trauma have haunted her family every day since the incident, affecting her sleep and filling her nights with nightmares.
“This incident not only took the life of an innocent child, but it has destroyed the spirit of our entire family. We no longer trust anyone to care for young children,” she said.
“I will continue to live with this pain for the rest of my life, but I hope the court’s decision will bring some relief and serve as a sign that justice has been done.”
While acknowledging that no punishment can restore her child, she expressed hope that other parents would be spared similar anguish.
In a Facebook post, Robiatul ‘Adawiah described the world as cruel for her little angel.
“How dare you harm my child who was only nine months old, you do not deserve to be called a human, you are a beast!
“Looking at the sentence handed down, it is certainly not commensurate with the act he committed, but what can be done, there is no death penalty now, only imprisonment and caning. I feel slightly relieved because I know, Ida, you will read this (expression), I will never forgive you, Bad, you must remember, karma will surely come,” she wrote.
On Friday, four years after the horrific crime, the High Court sentenced 40-year-old Mohamed Badruldin Mohamed to 30 years’ imprisonment and 13 strokes of the cane for sexually assaulting and killing the baby under his wife’s care.
Mohamed Badruldin had pleaded guilty to two charges before Judge Datuk Aslam Zainuddin.
For the sexual assault, he received a sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane, while for the murder of the infant, he was sentenced to 30 years and 12 strokes.
The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently, commencing from the date of his arrest on 29 April 2021.
According to the charges, Mohamed Badruldin had killed the baby at a house in the Projek Perumahan Rakyat Lembah Subang between 8 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. on 27 April 2021.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death penalty if convicted. For the unnatural sexual act, he was charged under Section 377C, which prescribes a prison term of between five and twenty years upon conviction.
