Mother tells Coroner’s Court late daughter remained good, cheerful child

Kota Kinabalu: The Coroner’s Court heard that whatever words were written on 15 sheets of paper linked to Zara Qairina Mahathir, she remained a good and cheerful child in her mother’s eyes.

Noraidah Lamat testified that she did not believe her late daughter had written the abusive words directed at her in the documents, stating such anger was contrary to the girl’s cheerful character.

She told the court she had never seen the 15 sheets while Zara was alive and only learned of them when a lawyer handed them to her during a meeting at a firm.

Recalling an incident at their previous home, Noraidah said Zara had once written “Mama is bad” on a small piece of paper after being reprimanded for excessive mobile phone use, but threw it away after being told to do so.

Noraidah added that Zara, who was also like a friend to her, would sulk and write to release her feelings when scolded, but would return to normal within about 30 minutes.
