KALABAKAN: A 47-year-old foreign man died while receiving treatment at Hospital Tawau on Sunday after a head-on collision involving two motorcycles along Jalan Felda Umas 2–Merotai.

District police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said police received information from Hospital Tawau regarding the fatal accident involving a Modenas Kriss and a Honda Vario.

He said the Kriss rider was confirmed dead while undergoing treatment, while initial investigations found he did not possess a valid licence and was not wearing a helmet, along with his 40-year-old wife who was riding pillion.

Jasmin said the accident occurred at about 12.30pm when the couple were travelling from the Petronas Umas station towards Kampung Felda Umas 2, while a 27-year-old man on the Vario, coming from the opposite direction, is believed to have lost control after avoiding a road hump before colliding with the Kriss.

He said the Vario rider sustained serious injuries and is being treated in the orthopaedic ward, the Kriss rider was treated in the red zone, while his wife was unhurt, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
