Motorcyclist killed in Tawau collision

TAWAU: A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision involving a car and a four-wheel-drive (4WD) at Jalan Merotai-Bombalai, at 8.20am, on Tuesday.

Tawau Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the victim died on the spot after being dragged for about 25 metres. The drivers of the car, 29, and 4WD, 53, escaped unhurt.

He said the car was heading towards Bombalai from Felda Umas, while the 4WD and the motorcycle were heading towards Merotai.

“The accident happened when the motorcycle tried to overtake the 4WD but hit the back of it, fell down and ended up on the opposite lane.

“The car coming from the opposite direction could not stop in time and dragged the motorcyclist for about 25 metres,” he said.

Investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 in ongoing.
