
TAWAU: A 43-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a lorry near SMK Kabota along Jalan Timur here on Monday afternoon.
Tawau Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said police received a report regarding the accident involving a SYM motorcycle and a Nissan lorry at about 4.11pm.
Initial investigations indicated the 62-year-old local lorry driver was travelling alone from Air Panas towards Eastern Engineering along Jalan Timur when the incident occurred at around 3.30pm.
The motorcyclist, who was coming from the opposite direction, is believed to have lost control of his machine and veered into the oncoming lorry’s lane, resulting in the crash.
Medical personnel dispatched to the scene confirmed the motorcyclist died from severe head and leg injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death, with police calling on eyewitnesses to contact investigating officer Insp Joseph Jelian Wilson Sigai at 016-8067272 or visit the nearest police station to assist in investigations.
