
A MOTORCYCLIST was seriously injured after being hit by a car driven by a man believed to be under the influence of alcohol and driving against traffic in an incident at Persiaran Kota, Klang, yesterday.
South Klang District Police Chief ACP Lim Jit Huey said the incident, which occurred at about 12.30 am, resulted in the victim, a man in his 20s, being thrown and suffering serious injuries to his body and right leg.
He said initial investigations found that the Perodua Bezza driven by the suspect, a man in his 30s, from the direction of Port Klang towards Shah Alam, was believed to have been driven recklessly and against traffic for about 3.5 kilometres before hitting the victim's motorcycle.
“The initial screening test results found that the driver of the car tested positive for alcohol. The suspect was immediately detained for further action, and a remand application was obtained until May 15 to assist in the investigation.
“The case is being investigated under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which is driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs causing injury.
"If convicted, a person can be sentenced to a minimum of seven years to 10 years in prison and a fine of between RM30,000 and RM50,000 in addition to the suspension of the driver’s license,” he said in a statement today.
Lim said following the incident, the victim was receiving treatment at the Red Zone, Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR), Klang, while the suspect only suffered minor injuries.
He also requested the cooperation of the public who have information or witnessed the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting the Investigating Officer, Inspector Mohd Khairulnizam Abdul Talib or any nearby police station. – May 14, 2026
