KOTA KINABALU: All motorcyclists have been urged to comply with road regulations to safeguard their lives and those of other road users.

District police chief ACP Kasim Muda said common offences include riding against traffic, performing wheelies, and dangerous zig-zagging or racing on public roads.

Under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, first-time reckless riders may face up to five years in prison, a fine between RM5,000 and RM15,000, and a five-year licence suspension.

Repeat offenders risk up to 10 years in jail, fines of RM10,000–RM20,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for up to 10 years.

Kasim warned that police would not compromise on enforcement and reminded the public to be disciplined and responsible on the road.
