On the evening of August 30th, reckless riders once again caused chaos, this time by bypassing the motorcycle lane and forcing their way through the RFID lane on the Penang Bridge.

Their actions led to a system malfunction, resulting in the temporary closure of the affected lane.

Tailgating a car

A video uploaded by Penang Kini’s Facebook page last night captured the entire incident.

The one-minute dashcam footage shows two motorcyclists tailgating a car as they brazenly pass through the RFID lane on the Penang Bridge.

Despite the best efforts of the toll booth staff, who stood in the lane attempting to stop the riders, the motorcyclists disregarded their presence and forced their way through, even breaking the right barrier in the process.

RFID lane shutdown

The video also shows the toll booth staff helplessly watching as the motorcyclists sped away.

Due to the system failure caused by their actions, staff had to place traffic cones and temporarily close the lane, forcing the car behind to reverse and use a different RFID lane.
