Motorists advised on traffic delays over EDSA anti-corruption rally on Sunday; police on alert

MANILA, Philippines — Motorists are advised to expect traffic slowdown and road adjustments around the EDSA People Power Monument area on Sunday, as the White Ribbon Movement (WRM) holds a Prayer and Indignation Rally calling for accountability, justice, and reforms in public governance.

The Quezon City government said traffic may slow down along EDSA, Katipunan Avenue, Ortigas Avenue, White Plains Avenue, and Temple Drive from 12 noon to 6 p.m. due to the expected gathering.

A zipper lane scheme will be implemented along White Plains Avenue between EDSA and Katipunan Avenue from 6 a.m. to 12 noon as part of traffic preparations.

White Plains Avenue from Katipunan Avenue to EDSA on the Camp Aguinaldo side will also be temporarily closed during the rally.

The city government said personnel from the Traffic and Transport Management Department, Department of Public Order and Safety, Task Force Disiplina, Quezon City Police District, and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will be deployed to manage traffic conditions.

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes to avoid possible delays.

The rally, organized by religious and civil society groups, is a faith-based and non-partisan activity that seeks to raise concerns over corruption and push for greater accountability in government.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Police District (EPD) will deploy  personnel from its headquarters and the Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina, and San Juan police stations, Brig. Gen Melecio M Buslig, Jr., acting district director, said.

The EPD will also intensify anti-criminality operations across Metro East, particularly in places of convergence, transport terminals, major thoroughfares, commercial establishments, and other strategic areas to prevent criminal activities and ensure the safety and security of the public before, during, and after the activity.

The EPD assures all participants and the general public that all deployed personnel have been directed to strictly observe the principles of maximum tolerance and uphold the respect for and protection of human rights in the performance of their duties.

Likewise, extensive coordination and collaboration with concerned government agencies, local government units (LGUs), force multipliers, emergency response units, and other stakeholders have been undertaken to facilitate the peaceful, orderly, and successful conduct of the event.

The EPD encourages the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with law enforcement authorities, and immediately report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or EPD hotline.
