Mountain Dew introduces nostalgic soda — but there’s good and bad news

Mountain Dew is releasing a new limited-edition soda can with a nostalgic price tag.

The good news is that the brand, founded in 1948 in Tennessee, will celebrate its history with a commemorative can priced at just five cents, which is quite a saving compared to the usual price of $1 or more.

But the catch is that they come in limited quantities, so customers hoping to snag a can will have to act fast. Mountain Dew will drop 1,948 bundles (a reference to its year of origin) on TikTok Shop over three days beginning Monday, June 29.

In addition to the limited-edition can, the bundles also include a 10-pack of Mountain Dew minis.

The company will announce daily quantities on Mountain Dew's Instagram account at noon ET each day, with bundles limited to one per person.

The release is part of Mountain Dew's “American Original — Tasting Great Since '48” campaign, which the brand says will celebrate “the grit and independence that trace back to the brand's Tennessee roots.”

“Mountain Dew has been Tasting Great Since '48, a bold citrus drink created by two brothers in the hills of Tennessee and unlike anything else on shelves,” a press release said.

The brand’s announcement comes after it brought back one of its most popular flavors, Mountain Dew White Out, which was discontinued six years ago.

Mountain Dew announced in May that the soft drink is returning to store shelves in a patriotic 18-can variety pack, available only at Walmart for a limited time.

The citrus-flavored soda‚ which was described as having hints of yuzu and lemongrass, was originally released in 2010 as part of a fan-voted campaign before it was abruptly taken off the market in 2019.

Fans can get the flavor in Walmart’s “America Pack,” which includes six Code Red Mountain Dews, six Voltage Raspberry Mountain Dews and six of the White Outs. The pack costs around $13, according to Walmart’s website.

The red, white and blue variety pack has been launched ahead of Fourth of July and America 250 celebrations.

Several brands have rolled out new products to mark 250 years of American Independence. Last month, Oreo introduced an all-new flavor inspired by the iconic red, white and blue-colored ice pop, while Chips Ahoy is also releasing red, white and blue cookies called Chips Ahoy! Crunchy Red, White & Blue Candy Blasts.

Meanwhile, several fast food chains are rolling out limited-time deals across the 4 July weekend.
