Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) has submitted a motion to make English the second official language of Sabah and for the re-establishment of the Malaysia Agreement Intergovernmental Committee (IGC) at the State Legislative Assembly sitting from July 18 to 21.

This would make Sabah and Sarawak the two states unique in the federation to stress on the importance of English while upholding Bahasa Malaysia. The use of English is also allowed in the courts under the Federal Constitution in Sabah and Sarawak.

Unlike in peninsula which must only use Bahasa in both magistrates and sessions courts, with lawyers allowed to make their submissions in both languages in the higher courts.
