In the year 2026, a legal storm brewed on the cinematic horizon. From the visionary mind of director Anubhav Sinha emerged "Assi," an Indian Hindi-language courtroom drama. Starring the formidable Taapsee Pannu as the unwavering Advocate Raavi, the film plunged into the intense world of legal battles.

Behind this epic tale stood the combined might of producers Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Anubhav Sinha, under the esteemed banners of Benaras Mediaworks and T-Series Films. The eagerly anticipated drama unfurled on the big screen on February 20, 2026.

Taapsee Pannu as the relentless Advocate Raavi, Kani Kusruti as the enigmatic Parima, Revathy as the resolute Vasudha, Manoj Pahwa as the compelling Deepraj, Kumud Mishra as the pivotal Kartik, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as the conflicted Vinay, Satyajit Sharma as the formidable Opposition lawyer

Beyond its initial release, "Assi" carved its legacy not merely as a film, but as a crucible forged in the fires of justice. At its core lay a gripping courtroom drama, not just of legal wrangling, but of a relentless pursuit into the shadows of unexplained sexual assault cases. Here, an intrepid investigator and a tenacious defence team stood as lone warriors, battling not just opposing counsel, but the very fabric of denial, determined to unearth shocking truths buried beneath cold statistics and reveal the agonizing human cost often lost in the headlines.

This was no ordinary cinematic experience. "Assi" emerged as a hard-hitting narrative, demanding attention with its raw power, fuelled by performances so potent they burned across the screen, and propelled by a narrative audacious enough to challenge the very core of its audience. Yet, even in its brilliance, an uneven pace could not fully diminish its impact.

Was "Assi" uncomfortable to watch? Absolutely. But it was precisely in that visceral discomfort that the film found its undeniable power, a crucial reason why it demanded to be seen. Stories born from the trauma of sexual assault are never easy to digest, and "Assi" made no attempt to soften the blow. Instead, with unflinching resolve, it confronted the audience with harsh realities, right from the shattering first frame.

The movie starts with a stark fact: in India, a rape is reported every 20 minutes. The film never lets you forget this, as the screen flashes red every 20 minutes with a message: "Another woman has been raped in India." This constant reminder is very unsettling and keeps the story feeling urgent and important.

The film's dialogues are really good, sharp and impactful. But sometimes, the story's pacing doesn't quite match how strong the subject matter is. Even though it stays interesting, the movie slows down, especially in the second half. A bit more editing could have made it even more effective.

Taapsee Pannu delivers another impressive performance, taking on a role she truly shines in. She acts with deep conviction, careful control, and intense focus, especially during a powerful scene at the end of the movie.

The film bravely addresses important social issues, combining strong emotions with clear storytelling. The entire cast helps make the movie richer, and its message about truth, justice, and how strong people can be makes it essential viewing for anyone who enjoys meaningful films. "Assi" is more than just a movie; it's an experience that will challenge and touch you deeply.

It's a challenging but essential watch for anyone looking for meaningful cinema that doesn't shy away from difficult topics, leaving a lasting impression.
