'My Lord': Sasikumar Brings Back Authentic Storytelling.
Directed by Raju Murugan, the 2026 Indian Tamil-language political satire film, My Lord, features M. Sasikumar and Chaithra J. Achar in leading roles. Asha Sharath, Guru Somasundaram, Jayaprakash, Gopi Nainar, and Vasumithra also play significant parts in the movie, which was produced by Jayanthi Ambethkumar of Olympia Films and hit theatres on February 13, 2026.
While 'My Lord' addresses organ trafficking, the movie itself is far from simple. It begins quite intriguingly, using tight shots focused on the waists of its characters. This isn't for sexual appeal, but rather highlights a deeper societal issue: the wealthy believe everything is purchasable, while the impoverished are compelled to accept that even their own bodies are commodities.
The Plot:
The story begins with Muthusirpy (M. Sasikumar) and Suseela (Chaithra J Achar), a Kovilpatti couple, being falsely declared dead due to a local moneylender's influence. Simultaneously in Chennai, Central Minister Sujatha Mohan (Asha Sharath) urgently requires a kidney transplant, and Muthusirpy is identified as a potential donor. The film then unfolds with the events that follow this critical twist.
Even though 'My Lord' has all the makings of a gritty, hard-hitting social drama, it opts for a different path, using clever humour to create a social satire. As the film progresses, it even transforms into a cat-and-mouse thriller.
If you're into powerful emotional storytelling, compelling performances, and captivating background music, 'My Lord' is definitely worth watching. Take my word, you are definitely going to enjoy the strong emotional storytelling, powerful performances, and immersive background music.
The film successfully delivers its message and keeps you engaged, though it could have benefited from characters as captivating as the predicaments they face.
While 'My Lord' successfully delivers its points and maintains curiosity, it might have been even more impactful with characters as compelling as the situations they find themselves in.
Despite tackling serious themes like trafficking, donor list manipulation, and pervasive societal corruption, the film offers a refreshing change from the recent trend in Tamil cinema towards high-budget spectacle and westernized narratives, which, though ambitious, often lack emotional depth.
This film takes a refreshingly authentic path, leaning into its cultural roots and emotional depth rather than visual spectacle. Its narrative is both thrilling and mysterious, yet firmly grounded in reality, allowing it to convey a powerful social message without ever feeling preachy, which only amplifies its impact.
The film handles class differences with remarkable nuance and sensitivity, portraying the stark contrast between wealth and struggle authentically without resorting to exaggeration for dramatic effect. What truly captivated me, though, was the depiction of love. The husband, initially appearing unassuming, reveals himself to be a profoundly sincere and wonderful partner as the story unfolds. It was truly refreshing to see love communicated through quiet strength, loyalty, and emotional integrity, rather than relying on overt, grand gestures.
The acting throughout the film is absolutely spot-on, with every performance feeling natural and convincing, adding depth to the story without any unnecessary theatrics.
This is a film that masterfully prioritizes substance over spectacle, resulting in a beautifully thought-provoking, moving, and deeply human experience.
While 'My Lord' effectively makes its social commentary and tries to inspire kindness, it sometimes finds itself in a confusing middle ground. It's earnest storytelling that needed to evoke deeper emotional connection rather than just sympathy. The film lands enough punches to keep you curious, though it could have benefited from characters as compelling as the predicaments they face. Overall, 'My Lord' offers a thought-provoking, moving, and deeply human experience!
