Sarvam Maya (Everything is an Illusion) is a Malayalam-language fantasy comedy-drama directed by Akhil Sathyan, starring Nivin Pauly and Riya Shibu. Released on December 25, 2025, the film follows an atheist musician working as a priest who forms a bond with a friendly ghost named Delulu, helping him navigate life.
A supernatural comedy film that's all about Prabhendu (Nivin Pauly), a struggling guitarist who's forced to return to his hometown after his visa gets rejected. Things take a turn when he encounters a ghost named Delulu, played by Riya Shibu, who's stuck between life and death. The movie follows their quirky journey as they navigate life, love, and the supernatural. Sarvam Maya has received positive reviews for its humour, performances, and heart-warming story.
Sarvam Maya is definitely worth watching! It's a heart-warming, feel-good movie with a mix of humour, emotions, and a touch of fantasy. The chemistry between Nivin Pauly and Riya Shibu is adorable, and the movie's simplicity is its biggest strength. Nivin Pauly is back in his comfort zone, delivering a charming performance. Riya Shibu's debut: She shines as the ghostly Delulu, bringing warmth and humour to the role. Aju Varghese's comedy and his pairing with Nivin is effortless and hilarious. Emotionally the movie explores themes of family, love, and letting go.
Sarvam Maya with its blend of humour, fantasy, and heart-warming moments makes it relatable and enjoyable for a younger audience. The lead female character, Delulu, is a Gen Z ghost who's quirky, playful, and respectful of boundaries, which might resonate well with younger viewers. The film's themes of self-discovery, friendship, and questioning one's beliefs are also likely to appeal to younger audiences. Plus, the movie's light-hearted and comedic tone, combined with Nivin Pauly and Aju Varghese's chemistry, makes for an entertaining watch. However, it's worth noting that the movie's appeal isn't limited to younger generations. Its gentle humour, emotional depth, and exploration of faith and identity make it a great watch for families and audiences of all ages.
The movie explores themes of faith, identity, and the human experience, which can spark interesting conversations. Maybe Delulu represents a symbol of unresolved emotions or unfinished business? Can't denied that Sarvam Maya's storyline is predictable because it follows a familiar narrative arc. The movie's themes of faith, identity, and self-discovery are classic, and the plot doesn't introduce many unexpected twists. The film's supernatural elements are used more as an emotional metaphor than a surprising plot device.
The climax of Sarvam Maya could have been stronger because it feels a bit rushed and predictable. The emotional payoff, while heart-warming, didn't quite match the build-up. The film's themes of faith, identity, and self-discovery are classic, and the plot doesn't introduce many unexpected twists. Beside this minor shortcomings, Sarvam Maya a 2h 26m supernatural comedy film manage to "Illus-ionize" a 8/10 star rating by nearly 6K IMBD users.
Ultimately, whether ghosts exist or not is up to personal interpretation. Sarvam Maya is a great starting point for discussions, but it's just a movie so just enjoy the ride! To tell you the truth, I kind got mesmerized with Delulu a Gen Z ghost.
