Tenzing (2026) is not just a mountain movie. It is a full-blooded expedition for anyone who has ever stared at a peak and felt that pull.

Directed by Jennifer Peedom and written by Luke Davies, this international co-production finally gives the mountain back to its true son. Newcomer Genden Phuntsok is extraordinary as Tenzing Norgay, carrying the film with quiet fire and raw grit. Tom Hiddleston brings grounded strength as Sir Edmund Hillary, and Willem Dafoe commands as expedition leader John Hunt. Together they retell the legendary 1953 first ascent of Mount Everest, but from the ridge history forgot.

The film premiered at the 53rd Telluride Film Festival on September 4, 2026, then hit theaters in the US and Australia on October 9, 2026, before streaming worldwide on Apple TV on October 16. It won the overall audience award at the 49th Mill Valley Film Festival on October 12, and critics call it one of the most honest mountain films in years.

Forget the version you learned in school. This is the untold, heart-pounding story of the Nepalese-Indian Sherpa who made the impossible possible. Tenzing is old-school adventure at its best, reverent but never boring, sincere to its core. It does not try to be flashy. Instead, it corrects the climb, putting spotlight on the man who carried not just gear, but a whole culture on his back. It moves with quiet dignity, but altitude and stakes will hit you hard.

For adventurers, the craft hooks you. The cinematography is jaw-dropping. Every crevasse, whiteout, and sun-blasted ridge feels real, vast, and terrifyingly beautiful. You can feel the thin air. The editing is sharp, weaving three timelines, Tenzing's wild childhood in the Himalayas, his relentless adult years chasing mountains, and the present moment on Everest. The past does not just explain the present, it fuels it. Every memory becomes another step toward summit.

At its heart, this is about true courage, stubborn perseverance, and finally earning recognition you deserve. Phuntsok is a revelation, while Hiddleston smartly steps back, letting his partner lead. His Hillary is no colonial hero, but a humble, intelligent climber who refuses to bow to hierarchy and that mutual respect between two men from different worlds makes the rope between them feel absolutely real.

This is exactly the kind of real, human adventure story we need more of. No filler, no dull stretches, just pure momentum from base camp to summit. Characters feel lived-in, casting feels perfect, and tension never lets up. A few shots could have used bigger production muscle, this story deserved IMAX scale, but spirit is so strong you will be Goggling Everest history when credits roll. Rated 7.4 by over 5.3K viewers today, it truly left me wanting more mountains, more truth, and more films like this.
