Little Children (2006)

I had not heard of this movie till the trailer just popped up in one of my Buzzfeeds. I looked at it, so I decided to give it a go.
Quite often than not, we are quick to judge other people’s actions. We use some arbitrary yardstick to compartmentalise people and straitjacket them into pigeonholes; this person is good and that one is otherwise. We all inevitably miss the elephant in the room. We ourselves are no beacon of righteousness. Somehow, these shortcomings get obscured in the cloud of hubris.
This film is a satire of all that - a movie about being straight-laced and keeping up with the majority. Set in a suburban neighbourhood, Sarah, an out-of-place, bored housewife who thinks she should be somewhere better, is trapped in a loveless marriage with an internet porn-crazed husband. She spends most of her time taking her daughter to the local park with some gossipy housewives.
To the same playground comes Brad, an unambitious lawyer who has yet to make a full-hearted attempt to pass his law exam. He is married to a high-achieving documentary maker. Brad, on the other hand, is too laid-back, trying to find his mojo. They start an affair. Brad
Against this background, a registered paedophile, Ronnie, lands in the area. There is much apprehension in the neighbourhood. Then, there is Larry, a sacked police officer who shot a child during his police work, whose life purpose is to harass Ronnie, who stays with his mother.
The story goes on to show how people who are quick to judge what is right and wrong can be sucked into wrongdoing. It also shows that one can always make amends for those wrongdoings and make it right again.
The title 'Little Children' does not refer to kids but to adults who behave like little children.
