Kota Kinabalu: Sepanggar Member of Parliament Mustapha Sakmud proposes a coordination meeting between Members of Parliament and State Assemblymen to find short and long-term solutions to urgent concerns in areas under City Hall, particularly Sepanggar. .

Citing serious challenges such as the water crisis, traffic congestion and flash floods, Mustapha expressed dissatisfaction with the current implementation status of projects.

“Sepanggar, which includes both urban and rural areas, desperately needs basic infrastructure and a road network,” said the Human Resources Deputy Minister, in a statement, Tuesday.

He asserts that the water crises and floods that occur practically every week make life difficult for the majority of Sepanggar residents.

“We wholeheartedly welcome the recommendation of the Agong’s Order and request that the relevant ministries, departments and agencies at the Federal and State levels to give serious attention to these people’s issues.

“As an initial step, the Parliament Office has received briefings from the ministries and departments involved. However, for the time being, we are dissatisfied with the status of the initiatives that are currently being implemented,” he said.

While emphasising the importance of a coordination meeting, he hopes this collaborative effort would result in the realisation of Sabah Maju Jaya’s vision and mission, as well as the concept of a Malaysia Madani.

Earlier in his statement, Mustapha noted that the Agong specifically touched with full support for the resolution of issues regarding the demands of the State Governments of Sabah and Sarawak regarding the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Among those mentioned are the transfer of gas supply regulatory powers to the Sabah Government, recognising the Public Works Department of Sabah and Sarawak, improving the level of special grants and empowering the economy throughout the country, especially Sabah and Sarawak.

The Agong also emphasised in His Majesty’s Order in strengthening the administration of law and the development of court complexes in Sabah and Sarawak.

His Majesty also added how important quality basic infrastructure and rural access connections deserve special attention.
