IPOH: Gopeng MP Tan Kar Hing (pic) has urged the Government to delay the launch of Chinese e-commerce platform Pinduoduo in Malaysia until a cross-border anti-dumping mechanism is introduced.
In a Facebook post, he said the platform should also be removed from app stores until adequate safeguards are in place.
Tan said local manufacturers and SMEs risk being squeezed by cheaper cross-border goods sold directly to consumers without being subject to comparable regulatory obligations.
He proposed requiring overseas platforms to store Malaysians' data locally and collaborate with local businesses to support technology transfer and SME development.
Tan said the measures would ensure fair competition while protecting local industries and jobs.
