SANDAKAN: Sandakan Member of Parliament Vivian Wong Shir Yee urged the Sandakan Municipal Council to strengthen security measures at the Sandakan General Market following a break-in at a trader’s stall on Monday.
“Immediate steps, such as providing night security patrols and repairing all damaged doors, must be taken to prevent a recurrence of such incidents,” Vivian said.
She rushed to the scene upon receiving news of the break-in to assess the situation firsthand and gauge the impact on the affected trader.
Police were also present at the location to conduct investigations into the incident.
“I hope those responsible for this criminal act can be identified and arrested swiftly to ensure the continued safety of traders and the public,” she added.
The break-in has raised concern among traders at the popular marketplace, highlighting questions over the adequacy of security arrangements at the public facility.
As an immediate measure, Vivian’s parliamentary service team assisted in repairing the damaged stall cabinet during the visit.
