TAWAU: Timber operators and transporters are encouraged to change their transport routes from land to sea and river, following concerns about the growing risks to public safety, particularly road users.

Kalabakan Member of Parliament, Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy, described the proposal to change the transportation route and method as a long-term solution to safety issues and road damage, especially between Merotai and Kalabakan.

Advertisement“If possible, we want both these issues to be resolved thoroughly and will bring this proposal to the State Government for implementation,” he said, after chairing the Road Management Consultation Session for the Kalabakan Parliamentary Constituency at the Royal Malaysian Customs Department’s Meeting Room, here, recently.

The meeting was attended by Kalabakan District Officer Murad Abd Rashid, Tawau Municipal Council, Royal Malaysia Police, Tawau Vehicle Licensing Board, Tawau Forestry Department, Tawau Public Works Department, and Tawau Fire and Rescue Department.
