The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is ending its 2025 season on a high note with the return of its much-loved Ballet Festival. Taking place this December at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) in KLCC, this will be the MPO’s fourth ballet festival following well-received editions in 2013, 2016 and 2018. And if the line-up is anything to go by, this year’s festival is set to be its most magical yet.
An Evening Of Dance

Joining the MPO on stage is the National Classical Ballet of Moscow, known for its elegance, precision and remarkable storytelling through dance. Conducting the orchestra will be Stanislav Kochanovsky, a familiar face to MPO audiences, who returns to the podium to weave his signature touch into two of the most iconic ballet scores ever written.
Kicking off the first festival weekend is Tchaikovsky’s timeless masterpiece Swan Lake. Often described as the world’s most beloved ballet, it has everything—mystery, romance, tragedy and some of the most recognisable music ever composed.
First premiered in 1877 at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Swan Lake has become a cornerstone of both ballet and orchestral repertoires. With its haunting themes and sweeping emotional power, it remains a classic that continues to capture audiences of all ages.
Performances on Friday, 5 December and Saturday, 6 December are almost sold out, prompting the MPO to add an extra show on Sunday, 7 December at 3.00pm—great news for fans who don’t want to miss this beloved production.
Festive Vibes
The festival continues the following weekend with another Tchaikovsky favourite, The Nutcracker, on Friday, 12 December and Saturday, 13 December. Set during Christmas Eve and filled with fairytale wonder, The Nutcracker is a story that brings childhood imagination to life.
Premiered in 1891 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, its score is one of Tchaikovsky’s most colourful—rich, atmospheric and filled with tunes that have become holiday traditions around the world.
