MPower, Calamba hospital ink renewable energy supply deal

MPOWER, the retail electricity supplier of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), said Tuesday that it had signed an agreement with the Calamba Medical Center to power some buildings using renewable energy.

“We see this partnership not just as a way to save on costs but as our contribution to the nation, maximizing resources and building a better future for the next generation,” CMC President and CEO Pilar Nenuca Almira said.

“We also look forward to expanding this partnership with the upcoming construction of our new medical buildings,” she added.

Meralco Senior Vice President and MPower head Redel Domingo, meanwhile, said “powering health care goes beyond providing reliable supply.”

“This partnership reflects how we continue to evolve our energy solutions alongside our customers’ growing need,” he added.

Under this agreement, five service accounts of Calamba Medical Center will be enrolled under the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP) and one account under the competitive retail electricity market (CREM).

The RAP is a government energy initiative that allows multiple smaller electricity consumers to aggregate their energy demands to reach a minimum threshold.

The CREM, meanwhile, allows consumers to choose preferred retail suppliers instead of getting electricity from a distribution utility.
