TWO DAP Members of Parliament are among eight candidates from the party who will contest the Sabah state election for Pakatan Harapan on 29 November.
Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin, 46, who also serves as Sabah DAP deputy chairman and Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister, will contest the Tanjung Aru state seat.
Sandakan MP Vivian Wong, 36, who is Sabah DAP secretary and chairman of the Sabah Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board, will stand in Elopura.
Their candidacies were announced by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke during the launch of the party’s election machinery here today.Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, previously assemblyman for Luyang, will contest in Likas, while new face and Sabah DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) chief Chan Loong Wei will stand in Luyang.
Two other new candidates include Sabah DAP assistant publicity secretary Tang Szu Ching, 28, who will contest in Tanjung Papat, and committee member Philip Yap, 40, who will stand in Sri Tanjong.
Former Kapayan assemblywoman and Sabah DAP vice-chairman Datuk Jannie Lasimbang will defend her Kapayan seat.
New Straits Times reported Loke saying one more seat that DAP intends to contest could not yet be announced as discussions with coalition partners were still underway.
The interior seat will be the only non-traditional constituency for DAP in this election, representing a rural, Bumiputera-majority area — a departure from the party’s usual urban strongholds dominated by Chinese voters.
“One interior seat cannot be announced yet because discussions are still underway with another party, but we will still contest there. The candidate will be a woman. We’ll announce it later,” said Loke.
It is understood that the seat in question is Kemabong in Tenom, expected to be contested by Sabah DAP vice-chairman and former Tenom MP Noorita Sual, who currently serves as a senator.
Loke added that half of DAP’s candidates this time are women, with many representing the youth. The youngest candidate in the party’s line-up is Chan Loong Wei, aged 25. - November 8, 2025
