When our Prime Minister Anwar (PMX) called the citizens of Malaysia his 'children' regardless of colour or creed, I was much impressed. However, the developments thus far have highlighted to me the idea of favouritism that often exists in many families. And we know how such favouritism affects the dynamics of building healthy families.
A few months ago, PMX became a ‘hero’ when he extended medical aid to a number of injured Palestinians by flying them into this country. In the few months, a few family members of the injured who are undergoing treatment in Tunku Mirzan Hospital, Kuala Lumpur have reciprocated negatively – throwing slippers at an army official, lighting a bonfire and spewing derogatory statements about their hosts in Wisma Transit Kuala Lumpur, where they are being accommodated. This is indeed worrying.
When I recall PMX’s act of charity, I am reminded the saying that charity begins at home. Recently PPUM (Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya) increased their various charges (consultations, follow-up specialist consultations and even ward admissions) significantly. I am sad when my country cannot provide affordable healthcare especially to her citizens in Petaling Jaya. This definitely is a blow to the B40 residents of my community as there is no public hospital (Klinik Kesihatan) where they can easily go to. In addition, those who are now too old to drive have to depend on public transport to go where they need to.
PMX, you have displayed a heart of compassion to the world by bringing in the injured to be treated in Malaysia. I sincerely hope this compassion can be extended to all in Malaysia, especially the seniors. Those who are in their golden years now have been working and paying taxes, contributing to the nation’s resources and progress then. Now, with the soaring cost of living, retirees, especially the non-pensioners have to be very careful in the use of their savings. All of us need good and affordable basic medical care as well as good public transport.
Mr PMX, would you please help all your children in Malaysia first? The seniors especially will really appreciate your gesture of charity at home.
God bless Malaysia!
